Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium in the mallow family Malvaceae. The fiber is almost pure cellulose. Under natural conditions, the cotton bolls will increase the dispersal of the seeds.
It is the fibrous flower of the cotton plant.

Teresa, my father grew cotton, and as a child, I picked the ends of the rows where the harvester couldn’t reach. As a mother, I covered my winter garden plot with a quilt of cotton hulls. I love seeing the stages of cotton crops in the fields. Thank you for sharing this capture! I can feel the texture in your image. L
